Italian Trattoria Arrives in New Territories

Ask for Alonzo opens its sixth Hong Kong location at Sha Tin New Town Plaza Phase 1, marking the modern Italian trattoria's first venture beyond Hong Kong Island. Following September's international expansion to Warsaw, the Sha Tin venue brings Ask for Alonzo's signature blend of authentic Italian cooking and neighbourhood warmth to the New Territories, serving families, shoppers, and local residents seeking accessible Italian dining.

The 100-seat venue divides between a 70-guest indoor dining room and 30-seat pet-friendly alfresco terrace, acknowledging Sha Tin's family-focused character and proximity to outdoor spaces. The interior design balances simplicity with warmth through forest-green leather banquettes, sturdy wooden tables, rustic textured white plaster walls, and bespoke forest-green ceramic tiles. Italian-inspired artwork and mirrors enhance the lively atmosphere, whilst warm pendant lighting completes the welcoming ambience.

The spacious alfresco terrace sits steps from a dog park, encouraging families and shoppers to linger with four-legged friends over leisurely meals. This outdoor focus honours Ask for Alonzo's commitment to blurring boundaries between interior dining and street life characteristic of Italian food culture, whilst addressing the New Territories' more relaxed pace compared to island locations.

Complete Italian Menu and Daily Celebrations

The à la carte menu maintains consistency with established locations whilst serving Sha Tin's particular community needs. Signature favourites anchor the offerings: Alonzo's Carbonara at HK$168 with crispy Roman guanciale, Italian eggs, and freshly ground black pepper; Ravioli Fiorentina at HK$158 filled with ricotta cheese and spinach; and Classic Lasagne with slow-stewed Bolognese ragù at HK$168. Prawn & Asparagus Risotto at HK$178 showcases al dente risotto cooked in flavourful lobster bisque. Mains including Chicken Parmigiana and Italian Porchetta, both at HK$198, provide substantial options.

The Kids' Menu addresses family dining priorities with pasta options from HK$68 to HK$88, featuring smaller portions of Bambino Lasagne, Penne Bolognese, and Penne Formaggio. This family focus proves particularly valuable in Sha Tin, where weekend shopping trips frequently centre on multi-generational gatherings.

Daily happy hour runs 3pm to 8pm including weekends, with beers from HK$38, house wine or prosecco at HK$48, and signature cocktails at HK$68. The timing positions the venue for both shopping break refreshment and proper aperitivo culture.

Weekend Brunch and Festive Celebrations

Auntie Maria's Italian brunch serves every Saturday, Sunday, and public holiday from 11am to 5pm at HK$268 per guest for sharing starter platter, choice of main, and dessert. The family-style format emphasises hearty, generous dishes ideal for sharing. Starters include Italian Cold Cuts Selection, Crispy Calamari, and Tomato Bruschetta presented on sharing platters. Eight main options span Breakfast Carbonara with fried egg, Italian Frittata with sausage and asparagus, the signature Auntie Maria's Baked Eggs and Meatballs, and Mortadella Panini. Desserts feature Alonzo's Signature Tiramisu, White Chocolate Panna Cotta, or My Auntie's Toast.

A two-hour free-flow option at HK$198 per person adds Fresh Lemonade, prosecco, beer, vodka, and gin with mixers. À la carte brunch starting from HK$108 provides flexible options for varied budgets.

December brings festive weekday lunch from 11:30am to 5pm Monday through Friday at HK$168, and daily festive dinner at HK$358. Two-course menus feature Italian starters, pasta courses including Rigatoni Amatriciana and Alonzo's Signature Carbonara, and festive mains like Roasted Turkey Breast with pork stuffing and Brussels sprouts. Desserts include Espresso Panna Cotta or Alonzo's Signature Tiramisu.

Strategic New Territories Positioning

The Sha Tin opening extends Ask for Alonzo's neighbourhood trattoria model beyond Hong Kong Island for the first time. New Town Plaza's location provides convenient access for Sha Tin's established residential community whilst drawing shoppers from throughout the New Territories, addressing the previous need for island travel to experience the group's Italian approach.

The venue's 100-seat capacity and family-focused amenities position it differently from island locations, where smaller spaces and office-worker proximity shape different dining patterns. Sha Tin's emphasis on weekend family gatherings and pet-friendly outdoor spaces requires adaptations whilst maintaining the authentic Italian cooking and warm service that built Ask for Alonzo's reputation across six locations.
